Becky likes...no, loves to play piano, and as a result, aims for making your piano "live up to potential," so to speak. This has fueled her desire to service pianos - big or small, old or new. She started training as a piano tuner in 1997 and passed the three exams administered by the Piano Technician's Guild to become a Registered Piano Technician in August 2008.
However, not one to stay content with her skill level, Becky continues to broaden and refine her knowledge and abilities. In the last five years, she has had opportunity to be involved in several rebuilding projects and has restrung several pianos, thus taking part in rebuilding projects from beginning to end. "There are hundreds of details to attend to and it is hard work, but the end result is really gratifying."
Becky is convinced she has found the most enjoyable profession of her working life. Her goal is to continue to service customers as best she can. She particularly likes to regulate actions because this aspect of pianos is so often neglected (customers usually are not aware of this need) and can make such a difference in one's ability to learn how to play an instrument. "My job is partly mechanical and partly educational. I try to get customers to stop beating themselves on their heads for not learning to play better, when in fact it may very well be the condition of the instrument. When a piano's action is adjusted properly, it makes a big difference in ones ability to play."
